Rosa Bonheur

LONDON, NATIONAL GALLERY.

THE HORSE FAIR. A number of horses-the most conspicuous being a pair of heavy dapple greys-being trotted out of one field into another. The original picture, of which this is a smaller version, was exhibited in 1853, and is now in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.

(Exhibited until quite recently, this picture is omitted from the new catalogue.)

  • If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. Vincent Van Gogh
The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They ennoble and inspire us—fostering creativity, goodness, and beauty. The arts help us express our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us together regardless of ethnicity, religion, or age. When times are tough, art is salve for the ache.
