Italian Paintings – Domenico Zampieri

Domenico Zampieri, called Domenichino, was born at Bologna in 1581. He studied in the school of the Carracci. When he was twenty, he came to Rome, where he made a great reputation, and which he well deserved. He is one of the very best artists of his time. Ile had great technical skill, and his style is charming.

No one who has seen his superb figures of the four Evangelists in the church of St. Andrea della Valle, in Rome, will ever forget them.

The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They ennoble and inspire us—fostering creativity, goodness, and beauty. The arts help us express our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us together regardless of ethnicity, religion, or age. When times are tough, art is salve for the ache.
